Here are a bunch of Photoshop experiments i have put together! i've borrowed some of your lovely photos and drawings to show you the sorts of things you can do with them. Use gradients, filters (although don't over do it), brightness/contrast, hue/saturation. Also search google images for 'print textures' and 'wall paper textures' etc to start getting nice tactile layers in your pieces.
